So we did a thing, we bought a house!Â
For those you who know us, you probably aren't surprised, but for those of you who we are just getting to know, you might be shocked to hear that this is the 7th home we have purchased in 10 years, making the number of moves 10, if you include the short term rentals we've also moved to and from lol. We like to find homes that have a good footprint, but are just in need of a little TLC.
As much as we've become "professional" movers over the years, moving is still stressful, and we really had not planned on moving again... enter 2020 (right?). With the changes that 2020 have brought to us all, and to our family, we realized that we had outgrown our last home, and made the decision to safely and swiftly list our house to purchase another fixer-upper with more property and privacy that offered us the potential to live a more simple, balanced and healthy life. This new home affords us the space indoors to have a home office, a homeschool space and somewhere to be active outdoors given it's close proximity to forests, trails, hills and beaches, as well as the potential to generate income for us should we want to in the future... but it is going to be work.
Before listing our house, we took advantage of Facebook Marketplace where we sold most of our furniture so that we would have less to move. We also sold things we no longer used, like toys and books our daughter had outgrown, and other items that we felt were no longer contributing to the sustainable, and healthy lifestyle we are continuing to seek. We donated many items including plastic dishes and glassware, clothing and other household items that no longer met our needs, to local, non-profit second hand stores. This made for our easiest move yet, because there was less to pack, store and unpack. It's amazing the "stuff" we accumulate isn't it? We are so glad that we took the time to go through our entire home, item by item, to really prioritize our household and product needs, despite it being a bit of a daunting task.

While this new home is well built, it has been well lived in, so we definitely have our work cut out to bring it back to its original glory, which is actually really exciting for us! We will be able to choose paint, flooring, lighting and finishes that are low in toxins, eco friendly, sustainable, safe and healthy for our family, and anyone who comes to visit. Most of the appliances are breaking down, so as they do we can replace them with more energy efficient models. We have even been looking at furniture, bedding, towels, dishware, cookware and household products that are from more sustainable and clean sources. We are excited to share this journey with you, and will have much more to share as we get settled in and begin repairs, renovations and decor.Â
