The Ultimate Guide to a fun filled, kid friendly St. Patrick's Day!

March 17 marks St. Patrick's Day, celebrated every year by many people who are Irish or who have Irish ancestors. Some even say that everyone is Irish on St. Patty's day! It is generally a celebration of Irish heritage and culture, but there is much more to it than that. We have round up some more information on why we celebrate Saint Patrick's Day, how to celebrate, traditional food and drink to serve, as well as some fun diy decor, crafts and activities to make your St. Patrick's day festivities. We have even included a fun name look up to find out if you too might have historical ties to Ireland!

Are you Irish?

We went on a hunt to find out if our last name had any historical ties to Ireland, and sure enough we stumbled upon this fun tool, that gave us a history on our possible ancestral ties to Ireland, along with our last name's coat of arms. We also decided that it might be fun to create our own family coat of arms and focused on what our family represents today. Here is a copy of a free printable coat of arms that we created for this fun activity. Just download, print and have fun!

Saint Patrick's Day Food

One of our favourite comfort foods is stew served over mashed potatoes. Here is a list of our all time favourite recipes, inspired by traditional Irish food and drink, that would be perfect to serve at your St. Patty's Day celebration!

And for the not so adventurous kiddos, why not make up a green food platter, add green dye to their milk/milk alternative, and for dessert we recommend a hunt for gold coins. This is our favourite St. Patrick's day tradition. The leprechaun sneaks in and hides gold or green coins all around the house, and once they have all been collected a few can be eaten for desert!
